FabLab ModelMaker by Aspex Software (UK) How to Create an Oblique Pyramid

Creating an Irregular PRISM

The ability of aspexTabsMST and FabLab ModelMaker to create and manipulate irregular prisms is a powerful feature that makes it possible to draw such complex models as stairs or other non-standard shapes where geometric templates do not apply. The power lies in the fact the programs are vector-based.

Below we demonstrate in a series of steps how this is done. The results can be printed out in NET format, with glue-tabs and fold-lines attached.

Step 1: Click on the “Irregular Prism” icon on the left and then position the cursor about 5 cm to the left of center, without releasing the mouse button move cursor along the z-axis to the right for about 5 cm. Release mouse button and move cursor to the left along the y-axis for about 5 cm. The click once.

Step # 2: We click once to automatically turn the long side facing us to the frontal view

Step 3: Create grab handles at regular intervals on the top white line. They will serve as operational points for creating teh risers and treads of the starirs.

Toblarone Packing created with aspexShapes & Nets

How to create a simple package for a popular chocolate using the aspexShapes & Nets software.

Software Requirements: aspexShapes & Nets
Below is a sample of a simple package constructed by students using aspexShapes & nets, 110 pound stock paper, scissors, a scoring knife and glue.

When the design is done aspexShapes and Nets will print out the two-dimensional NET, including the chosen patterns and colors and the students then will complete the task by folding the cut and scored NET to build the actual “Toblerone” package.

The power of aspexTabsMST is ability to create NETs of the 3D images. Students can also import their own imges and place them on the models.

Would you like to contribute to our project gallery?

When submitting projects to The Knowledge Tree Inc. please follow the steps outlined below:

  • introductory text: purpose of project
  • curriculum correlation
  • Materials needed to build the physical model

The gallery will consist of an introduction to a project. Each project can have up to 15 pictures or screenshots associated with the intro tect. Each picture or screenshot can have its own text associated with it.
Pictures should be subitted either in gif or jpeg format

Make sure to tell us the sequence pictures should be uploaded.

The progression should be clearly indentified and the completed project should be the last picture

The closing remarks should consist of:

  • Grade level of the class that completed the project.
  • How long did it take
  • Other important facts that need to be known by other teachers
